Help on crashing

Hi, I’ve installed it, I’m loving it because of it’s simplicity, beautiful interface and everything. But I am hating it because it crashes every 5 to 10 minutes or so. I don’t know why. Information shown after crash is not readable for normal human beeing. Why this is not working as it should? I mean Pages are working without any problems, Numbers too? Why iBook Author isn’t? Why is this crash always happening? Has anyone the same problem with it? By the way - my configuration is Mac Book Air, 13’’, 4 GB RAM, i5.

Amazing book display

this is definetly a great app

Waste of Time

Though the experience of creating a book is good, its actually a waste of time because it turned out, that the books you create are not fuctioning as a normal iBook would. It only works on the iPad and doesnt work on the iPhone. And even on the iPad it works similar to the PDF, so that you cant change the text size or background. Useless!

I need some more functions

For books full of maths I need equation reference and more compatible LaTeX commands. There is an annoying bug in the “Edit Equation” window: when you type (apostrophe = prime) it turns into ’ (right single quotation mark) and the equation becomes invalid if you don’t type CMD+Z. I need also to insert “callouts” to the equations.

It’s Okay

Apple needs to advance capabilities in this program if they indend it being a tool allowing authors easy creation and publishing of iBooks. I tried this program first starting by creating a book from templates and found very limited in grouping and organizing chapters and sections. The program doesn’t allow adding a footnote in any fashion and other items authors need when creating works. I then created something using Pages and imported it into iBook Author. I added footnotes in iPages because I was citing work. I’m working on a historical book and do need to cite sources and even sections of others work. Well, iBook Author completely destroyed my footnotes, broke down organization created in iPages using headings and even destroyed the index automatically created in Pages. Apple developers, authors need full word processing features when writing books. Even novelists are writing themselves notes, organizing them while they write. Without the basic heading organization, footnotes, and more simplistic text editing; the program is only going to be used by someone writing a novel and more than likely they will use it only for their first attempt.

Fancy, and Only Imports from Pages and Word

I would like to be able to convert pdfs to epubs, so I can read them, on my e-reader, without too much eye strain. I can use Textedit to clear out formatting and [step-by-step] clear out the line breaks. I thought this would let me organize the results into simple readable epubs. But this is for fancy epubs, and cant open existing epubs, and this doesn’t import from Textedit, which is the best to clear out formatting, or from LibreOffice, which is my usual word processor, only from Pages or Word. I don’t see why I should need one more step in the process: pdf -> txt -> pages or doc -> epub. I don’t know about multitouch. I can’t use multitouch with my disabilities, and don’t understand why multitouch would have anything to do with e-readers. It also contains painful animation. For example, when I try and fail to open existing epubs, it has an animated graphic of flipping to the file selection screen and back.

Great Ap if you use an OS or iOS.

On the Menu: NOTES Tab, Please Reassign the Hyperlink from Page No to Highlighted text. :) I’ve been working on my first book and had gone through several revisions. I recently updated the same book on IBA and viewed it on iBooks. On the NOTES tab, a revision retains items that had been highlighted - This is great!! It also retains the actual Page # when the highlight was saved. However, my revision moved the text to a different page so when I click on the link which is the Page No, the link takes me to that page, but the text is missing because the revision relocated it. On the NOTES tab, can the hyperlink be on the Highlighted Text instead of the Page No? And can the Page No be replaced so it Echos or shows the actual or current page number where the highlighted text is located. Much Thanks and Keep up the great work! :) The NOTES Tab is an underexplored/undervalued Function. A lot of Time/Thought/Energy is save from this Tool. I hope a revision can be made to restore the much needed Functional Use. :)

Great for writing books

iBooks Author is the best tool out there for writing books and exporting them to iBooks or even Kindle as PDF. iBooks Author blows the doors off of Kindle Creator. The PDF output from iBooks Author is great. I have only one complaint, my book is quite large and has lots of collada 3D images in it, and the Preview mode it times out on download to the device, and can take a few minutes to download properly. Also the addition of adding footnotes to a page would be helpful. I really wish Apple and Amazon would get together and both would just use iBooks Author which is far superior in multi-media then anything Kindle has.

One of Apple’s Best

This software is amazing and one of the best things Apple ever created. The only drawback is that Windows users cannot use the iBooks that are created, and like it or not, Windows is still the dominant platform (lousy as it is). These work great on the iPad. Wonderful interface too. Wish Adobe had such elegant and simple interfaces like this. Love this software!

No support for continuity or iCloud sync!!

I really don’t get it. I have been waiting for an update that brings continuity and iCloud sync to iBook Author, but I keep getting disappointed. Is that too much to ask? Almost all other Apple apps use these technologies.

Media

Please update the Media, iTunes and Photo won’t open to populate the list. Every meaningful update forgets this function.

Who’s deciding on update specs

I am mostly repeating what two other users have already said but it bears repeating. For quite some time, iBooks Media Browser will not sync (work with at all) the Photos library or iTunes library. I find this amazing. It seems that Apple is simply providing updates to ensure iBooks (generally) works with the latest OS. Reminds me of the time Apple abandoned Aperture (and its customers). Also, the reviewer that questioned why iBooks does not have all the iCloud syncing abilities of so many other apps is spot on. iBooks feels like an app that is limping along simply to appease customers. Otherwise, if Apple is serious about iBooks, why not provide the necessary resources to provide a proper, fully functional update (including attention to UI improvements). I hope Apple provides the necessary reources to keep iBooks viable. Otherwise Apple, just tell us you no longer care, and drop the rouse.

Please fix this bug!

I really love this app; as an aspiring writer, I love the app’s organization, templates, and everything else. However, I keep encountering a problem where when I take the screen off of full-screen mode, the screen goes to black and displays a message saying I either need to continue the app in its current state or force quit the program, and almost every time the program won’t even let me press either button. Please update the app to fix this bug, because I really love the app and would hate to have to delete it and try to find another writing app that’s just as good.

Its great!!! But their is one problem.

It is a great program but it tales way to long to optimize a movie

Heading in the right direction, but...

I discoverd this app while reading a PDF that someone created using iBooks Author. I’ve been using it for a few days now and it is a really nice app EXCEPT I echo what others have said (iCloud sync for one). But…why not make an iPad/iPhone version? Yes it would not be as fully functional (although I don’t understand why…Pages and Numbers are available on the iPad, iPhone and Mac) but right now, when I am away from my Mac, I write on iOS Notes and then I have to transfer what I wrote to iBooks Author on my Mac. Of course, if there is no iCloud sync (like others have pointed out), having an iPad/iPhone app doesn’t make any sense. I truly hope that Apple is not going to only do simple upgrades. This truly is a great app. It has so much potential. Please, Apple, don’t leave us hanging here. Listen to the feedback and keep improving this app. Thank you.
