iBooks Author App Reviews

took it off of my Macbook pro

Just bought a brand new mac book pro, added this app onto my new computer. Upon opening a new project to sample what it could do, photos would not open in the media section. Tried several attempts. Got frustrated with it and took it off my computer. Maybe they will fix this issue.

funtionality ???

Why can’t I set up a ebook with this app that toggles night view ? (black background) Apple you find this very hard to believe, there really is people out there who want more functionaliy and they can figure out how to use it. ;-)

Too Limiting

I find this app too limited and limiting. I wish I could just upload my pdf file and the server would convert it to an iBook.

Dont Understand What Apple Is Trying To Do

This has to be the most confusing and annoying app Apple ever created. I have a book that has been sitting on the shelf for years, and i thought this would be the way to get it published. Ha ha ha … laughs on me because I couldnt get past the title page. Not sure what this app is supposed to do, but I will try one of the simpler ones like LuLu or something.

Question marks on my page

I really love this app, but after the fifteenth page question marks show up all over my page. I can still write over the question marks however.

Faster

This version is a lot less laggy when moving objects and navigating bigger projects, but can still be a little sluggish when moving/resizing large media or skipping through an all text 300+page book project, even on a maxed out 15 inch macbook pro retina early 2013. Can’t hardly complain though, every other feature works wonderfully, and the proof reading/editing for iPads is incredibly useful.

Please support Arabic language.

Please support writing in Arabic (writing from right to left). Otherwise, I can’t make use of such beautiful application.

Love it, but the latest update made it even more unstable

It’s really a fun and enjoyable way to write ebooks. But after the latest update I’ve suffered 5 hard crashes of the app over the course of two days. One resulted in losing some of my work. Not cool.

Crashes at times, but overall a decent program

I’m working on my first iBook now and this program can be hugely frustrating because it will ‘close unexpectedly’ and you can lose all of the information you entered from your previous save point. Save, save, save. I write in Word then upload each chapter to avoid this, but when I edit, I instantly save it to prevent data loss. I would recommend doing this. Otherwise, it’s a pretty nice program. Also, another reviewer wrote that he couldn’t put his book in a format that could be used on Kindle. That’s not entirely true. You can export to PDF, which is used in Kindle. As far as the publishing part…(I don’t know if he was referring to that aspect as well)…as I said, I am only working on this for the first time and haven’t actually ‘published’ anything to iBooks so that might be a concern if iBooks wants certain ‘rights of publishing’. Problematic with it’s glitches if you’re not careful with your saving, but overall a good program.

great

great app :) would be greater if it supports arabic .

Awesome app.

I like this app. Easy and simple to use.

I Love this app, it’s the best book making app!

This app is very useful. you can make all different kinds of books. it provides a title, and title picture with different side adds, :) I’ve been using this app everyday to make books. You can make over 10 different book styles and more. It gives you free editing. LOVE IT

Equation, Equations, Equations!!!

I am a Physics Professor. I need the ability to label and reference the equations within the textbook. The only work arounds are doing them by hand, but that is not feasible in a 200+ page thesis, dissertation, or book. Apple had a great idea that stopped short of the finish line.

Has Potential

This has potential, from what I can tell. I can’t give an in depth review because I keep getting a sentence or two in and it crashes.

Amazing app

I’ve been writing professionally for over 10 years now and i just downloaded this app recently to my macbook pro. It’s an awesome app for anyone who is looking to write a book :)

Please fix one bug

Whenever I type ‘l’ after ‘f’, the app crashes and quits. So I can’t type words like ‘float’ or ‘fly’. It’s kind of rediculous such serious bug hasn’t been fixed yet. Other than that, I find this the best program on computer for writing books or pdf files. I like it, but please fix the error. It’s making me go mad.

Love it but………..

I started 3 books with this amazing app, but then one day after the update, nothing stays open for very long, and I have tried to use other apps to continue writing because of the crashing of this app, but it is not working because even when I paste it into the book prior to the crash, it does not save the changes. Would love to continue using it if they can make it stable enough to be used again.

Crashes!!!

I love using this app and always write a article with it. but after installing the OS X Yosemite, I can’t load any of my books I have written. I’m really really sorry for this bug and want it to be fixed. All the articles that I wrote with this app is my everything.

2.2 - A Big Step Up - Minus the Bugs

Version 2.2 is a big step up, especially now with the new blank templates. (How long have we been waiting for those?!) Of course, with every update, there are bugs. It might be my Mac, I am running 10.10 after all. First, I noticed that when you go into full screen mode the font altering options (bold, italic, etc.) are gone, but when you leave full screen mode they’re back on the tool bar. Would love a fix for that, Apple. The blank templates are just that, blank. (took you guys long enough) I like that I can import IDML files from InDesign, but unless the layout in InDesign is at it’s most basic, it’s pretty useless. Perhaps Apple should have made it more compatible with features used in InDesign. For instance, if you put a two page spread into the document that had a single picture as the background, iBooks Author makes a copy of the photo and tries to, and horribly at that, make it seem like it did in InDesign by lining up the photos. I’m glad it has that feature, Apple, but please, if it can’t handle fancy InDesign features just don’t include it, what it can handle from InDesign can be easily done inside of iBooks Author. Finally, I noticed that typing, again might be the OS, is far slower in this version. PLEASE FIX! I don’t want to have a five to ten second delay on what I’m typing, I would like to be able to see it appear on the screen instantly. I have no idea if it is the OS X or if it’s the program, but something isn’t compatible, so fix it. Otherwise, the app is awesome, use it all the time. Also, if any of you use the blank templates, be forwarned that it is COMPLETELY blank, no images on the cover, empty text boxes, and blank layout set-ups. Good for those who want to have complete control over what their book looks like, bad for people who hate tedious work, then again, those people probably weren’t the ones wanting blank templates to start with…

keeps crashing

update to yosemite on brand new macbook pro and everytime i try to copy and paste from a pdf or pages import it crashes. It can be a paragraph or a page, sometimes just a sentence and it just crashes and gives a error message saying that it closed. Used to be able to copy an entire 90 pages and paste into program. I have to import exact word for word from government and private contracts and then we add our portion to each area to make sure we dont leave anything out. This bug is very very frustrating and the crashes are unwelcomed.
